Myanmar E-Visa: Don't Waste Your Money!

Almost 2 years back, one night when I opened my Air Asia Big Point account, I found out that I had quite a few points which would be expiring soon. As I was exploring my options, found a deal and decided to redeem those points which are about to expire for Bangkok-Mandalay-Bangkok.

I usually purchase cheap or free tickets without even thinking about the visa and as for Myanmar, I never thought I will face a problem as I had 3 previous Myanmar Visas and used those to travel Myanmar in 2015 & 2016. Anyway, considering the political tension then, I decided to apply for E-Visa which is officially available for Bangladesh nationals before redeeming those points. (All my previous Myanmar visas were sticker visas).

Official Website & Documents Required:

So, I went to the official website: https://evisa.moip.gov.mm/ and filled out my form correctly, which required nothing other than passport details and a photo.

Visa Fee & Processing Time:

The official fee is USD 50, but I chose the Express Service adding USD 6, so my total was USD 56. (my Air Asia Big Points would expire with 48 hours)The E-Visa processing time is officially 72 Hours and choosing Express Service ensures that you receive the decision in 24 hours.

My Experience:

And I had received the result well within 24 hours, actually in 18 hours and I had my first Visa Rejection! There have been cases when some embassies did not accept my passport or returned it as they were not authorized to process visas for Bangladesh nationals, but THIS was frankly the first time & the last time (at the time of writing this blog) my visa application was ever rejected in last 11 years of travel.

I guess it was time when the political situation may even affect visa issuance for frequent travellers or previous visitors. My previous Myanmar visas were issued in Vientiane (Lao PDR); Bangkok (Thailand) & Dhaka (Bangladesh) by respective Myanmar Embassies.

Suggestions:

-Do not apply for E-Visa if you are holding a Bangladeshi Passport and waste USD 50 for nothing, it is unlikely the visa will be issued (I may be wrong, please use your own instinct if you choose to apply).
-If you want to apply for Myanmar Visa, apply with the Embassy of Myanmar in Dhaka.

You need to apply through the authorized agency. Please find the address below:
